Today's episode is a clip from my drop-in comments during a side event organised to discuss the 30 x 30 initiative for governments to designate 30% of our planet's land and ocean area as protected areas by 2030. The initiative is what many Indigenous Peoples nowadays describe as fortress conservation, or simply another land grabbing exercise. Because its circumventing - or removing - Indigenous Peoples that are already doing much of the conservation work, we've all heard that 80% of the world's remaining biodiversity is on the territories of Indigenous Peoples. Is that because these territories are miraculously healthier or is it because the people that have taken care of it for thousands of years have done a very good job? Is Article 6 or 30 x 30 threatening that under the flag of sustainability and conqu- ehm conservation? Enjoy!
