Today's episode is a conversation with Hunanatu "Huna" Matoke, the General Secretary of the Alifuru Council. Hailing from the Nuaulu tribe she was forced by the government to choose a faith, was not allowed to speak her indigenous language in school and saw a lot of adversities faced by Indigenous Peoples. This experience made her want to stand up for the rights. Now she works closely with the Alifuru chiefs (tua-tua adat) in their activities and by that she sees a decreased interest from them in protecting their rights and their lands. Hear her story, the work she does and the unforgiving reality she continues to face. Let me know what you think, please tweet any thoughts or takeaways to @gomaluku.
